What Is A Chiropractor?

Your back is killing you.  Again.  You feel as though you’re walking all hunched over like your grandfather and you’re far too young to be moving so slowly and with such pain. Hot baths, aspirin and even hanging upside down hasn’t seemed to help you feel any better.  Now what?

Well, you can see a traditional medical doctor who will more than likely prescribe muscle relaxants and pain killers that may or may not take care of the problem, or at least mask it enough so that you can get by, or you can try an alternative form of medicine;  you can visit a Chiropractor.

Don’t be frightened by stories about how a cousin of a friend of your sister’s dog-walker once went to a chiropractor and it hurt so badly and damaged them to the extent they never walked again.

It’s not like that.  Modern chiropractic practices are pain-free experiences that do help many people with debilitating spinal pain.

The word Chiropractic comes from the Greek chiros and praktikos which means it’s done by hand.

You probably already know someone who’s gone to see a chiropractor or perhaps even visited one yourself.  The premise behind the word that chiropractors do is that spinal joint dysfunctions or injuries interfere with the nervous system, causing not only pain but can also result in diminished health in other areas of the body.

Just as medical doctors differ in their assessment and treatments, so too do Chiropractors.  Most visits to a Chiro’s office will net you a spinal adjustment, but other interventions might be used by doctor as well.

There are four distinct groups of chiropractors:

  • Traditional Straights
  • Objective Straights
  • Mixes
  • Reforms

The main differences in each group are based on their various treatments, their philosophy on adjusting, the things they say about how their adjustments work and simply their style.  As with any doctor, you should take some time to interview them to see if you are a good match.  Does their method mesh up with what you’re looking for in a Chiropractor?  Always look for one that you feel comfortable with because chances are you’ll be spending a lot of time with them in the near future and your spine will be in their hands.  Literally.

Dealing With Conflict

Coaching by its very nature can be very stressful.  The head coach has agreed to place himself in a situation where he will repeatedly face conflict.  Over the course of a season, the head coach will likely have disputes with opposing coaches and game officials, as well as from his or her own players and their family members.  No matter what a coach decides to do, it is highly likely that his decision will be questioned or even resisted by someone.

So what’s a coach to do about this?  Well, the first thing that a new coach has to understand is that it WILL happen.  It is inevitable and you can’t avoid it; conflict will continually pop up as long as you are coaching.  Quite honestly, if you can’t accept this now… quit, save yourself the mental anguish.  But if you decide to remain, then you are going to need some help in dealing with it.

First things first, calm down.  An old referee used to tell anyone who would listen to him this one thing: once a coach begins to yell, the discussion is over.  Take his advice, speak slowly and speak softly.  When conflict occurs, your best bet is to remain calm, remain logical, and speak your piece.  Listen to what the other party is saying and take it seriously, and most of all, understand that you will not win most of the time.  Yes, you are going to lose these conversations more often than not.

So, conflict happens and you usually won’t win, so now what?  Well, smart coaches understand that in conflict, there is opportunity.  During a conflict, the way one acts will determine the ground rules for the next dispute.  For instance, if during a practice the head coach yells back at a frustrated player, there is a good chance that this player will shut down and stop dealing with this coach.  On the other hand, if the coach remains calm, speaks his mind, and deals honestly with the player, the coach will open lines for future communication.

So remember to calm down, conflict isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  In conflict, there is an opportunity to exchange points of view. Conflict can be viewed as a chance to learn another point of view.  And besides all that, no one wins them all.

Stop Smoking With EFT

Many people are completely caught off guard by the results they see after using Emotional Freedom Technique for their problems with any addiction: they can often stop using drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or overeating immediately after beginning EFT.

The first benefit of using EFT for addiction like smoking is that it effectively deals with the craving that a person experiences. The tapping of the body’s energy meridians should be completed along with positive thoughts such as “Although I am addicted to tobacco, I am strong enough to overcome my addiction and live a fulfilling life.” The craving usually passes with a round or two of EFT tapping, while many other techniques fail to remove the cravings, making quitting an addiction difficult if not impossible. After regular EFT therapy or self-taught usage, a lot of people can walk away from their addictions and lead a much healthier life.

EFT also works with addictions because it is a holistic health approach, which means that all aspects of a person’s being are recognized: the physical, emotional and spiritual. Although addiction is also a physical problem, in the majority of cases it has an emotional reason. People smoke to relieve pain, forget past trauma, or deal with an unpleasant situation. Every time the person uses an addictive substance, he or she is trying to block out the fear, guilt or anger of a past issue.

EFT is not just a cover up of the symptoms or problems; with just a few EFT sessions many can leave the addiction behind. Performing the EFT tapping routine for the craving for a cigarette can really help reduce those cravings for good: a person must recognize the anxiety that is causing the desire for the substance. Once a person can understand what is making them want to block out their feelings with cigarettes, they can eliminate the intensity of the craving with EFT training. EFT has amazing healing powers, and can treat nicotine addiction quickly and effectively.

EFT tapping can help overcome both the physical cravings for nicotine, as well as the emotional attachment. It is not necessary to recognize the basis of your fears and feelings which you are masking with nicotine in order for EFT to work,

Although drugs and alcohol are some of the most common addictions, there are numerous other addictions that can be treated with EFT. Compulsive hair pulling (trichotillomania), sexual addiction and even overuse of caffeine can all be treated with EFT.

Causes Of Back Pain

That searing pain in your back is no fun.  It impedes your ability to engage in, much less enjoy, your daily activities.  Medication and even physical therapy may help relieve the symptoms, but you’d still like to know why you’re in so much pain.

Back pain comes in a variety of levels and for different reasons. Here are just a few reasons why you may be shuffling around like your grandmother.

Bulging disc (also called protruding, herniated, or ruptured disc). Your discs are always under pressure. As you age they degenerate and become weak.  The cartilage can bulge outward and push into the space where your spinal cord or nerve root lives.  This is what causes pain. Your lower back is most at risk for this kind of back pain. If your disc is pushed so far into the spinal canal that it compresses the bundle of lumbar and sacral nerve roots can leave you with permanent damage.  This is called Cauda Equina Syndrome.

Sciatica happens when your herniated or bulging or ruptured disc presses on the sciatic nerve.  This is a rather large and lengthy nerve that comes down the spinal column, exits in the pelvis area and extends nerves down each leg. This particular pain is a shock-like or burning lower pain in the back that runs down your rear end to your legs. If he nerve is compressed between the disc and a nearby bone there won’t be pain, instead there will be loss of feeling and less motor control over the leg because your nerve isn’t functioning.

Spinal degeneration is caused by wear and age on the disc which can lead to narrowing of the spinal canal. This causes stiffness in the spine in the morning and pain after a person stands or walks for any length of time.

Spinal stenosis related to congenital narrowing of the bony canal predisposes some people to pain related to disc disease.

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease where you loses bone density and strength which leads to fractures, breaks and a great deal of pain.  This occurs because the body is failing to make new bone.  Women suffer from this condition four times more than men,

Skeletal defects can put pressure on the vertebrae and supporting muscles, tendons, ligaments, and tissues supported by spinal column. There are several specific spinal defects and each one brings with it the possibility of back pain. There is Kyphosis, Lordosis, Back Extension and Back Flexion, among other spinal defects.

Fibromyalgia can also cause back pain as well as musculoskeletal pain over a wide area of the body.  Tender points are also present with this condition.

Spondylitis causes pain and stiffness in the spine due to a severe infection or inflammation of the spinal joints. This is a chronic condition.  Osteomyelitis, an infection of the bone, can also cause back pain.

Back pain can occur for many reasons, some as simple as moving the wrong way and straining a muscle.  You need to be aware of your body and the signals it’s sending you.  Pain means something is amiss and you need to find out what it is and how you can correct it.  You’re far too young to be shuffling around like your grandfather.

Causes Of Bad Breath

The causes of bad breath can include the lifestyle and the diet a person has. Almost everyone has experienced the situation of bad breath at some time.

Your Diet

Depending on what you put eat, your bad breath could be caused by what you eat. There are certain things that you can eat to help ease the bad breath such as greens like parsley, lettuce, and other things. In addition, eating things that have not been properly cleaned or cooked can lead to bad breath also.

Your Habits

Brushing your teeth and flossing between your teeth on a daily basis is an imperative part of curing the many causes of bad breath. It is important to make sure that you thoroughly clean your mouth and remove any excess food particles and anything else out of the mouth. The mouth is a warm, wet place that will not smell good if you have leave small pieces of food in the teeth. This is the main cause of the many cases of bad breath, and if you do not take care of it then it will turn into a bigger problem than it need be.

Prostate Cancer Symptoms

Successfully identifying prostate cancer symptoms can be simple if you know what you are looking for. Keep in mind that early detection is key to winning a fight with prostate cancer.

As technology advances, it is getting easier to verify the common prostate cancer symptoms in men. The current statistics say that if you are living in the United States and over the age of forty five, your chances are now one in six that you are at positive risk for getting prostate cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, one of the more common symptoms of this disease are urinary problems, such as difficulty or not being able to urinate, having a hard time controlling the flow during urination, overly frequent urination, especially during the night, a weak urination flow or one that stops and starts, pain or burning during urination, impotence, and blood in the urine as well as semen.

Keep in mind that during the most initial phase of this disease, there may be no prostate cancer symptoms. Therefore screenings for this disease will not be successful for every visit to the doctor. Also there is a type of similar and common problem that will resemble prostate cancer called benign prostatic hyperplasia which is a growth of benign prostate cells. Many men over fifty in the United States have symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It also will prevent the normal flow of urine, just like regular prostate cancer.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Ovarian cancer symptoms are considered something every woman over 35 should be aware of. Even if a woman has a benign growth called a cyst on an ovary, this can also end up being cancer in future years. Over 20,000 women are affected every year by ovarian cancer. This is approximately one tenth of those that are affected by breast cancer.

Also because of the unclear signs this disease can give, the ovarian cancer symptoms can be confused with other diseases and easily misdiagnosed. The medical profession is fairly focused on the more prolific cancers, and rightly so, but nevertheless, that does not make ovarian cancer any safer.

What are some of the symptoms of ovarian cancer ? Some of them are chronic fatigue, a feeling of pressure or of pain in the abdomen, back, legs or pelvis area, constipation, diarrhea, gas, indigestion or nausea, shortness of breath, overly frequent urination, and unusual changes in menstruation. So many of these are typical of other problems that it would be hard to have just a few of them and make a positive judgement on the symptoms. This is why doctors use what is called risk factors.

Therapies For Anger Management

There are many techniques available for anger management, and they tend to be divided into two separate treatment categories.

The first category of treatment technique for anger management deals with addressing the symptoms of anger management, i.e. the outbursts, the sudden rages, and everything else that goes along with your typical case of anger management.

The second category, and it is quite a bit more involved, deals with treating the source of a person’s anger. Often times when treating people with anger problems, therapists will start by treating the symptoms of anger so that people will find themselves better able to cope with their day-to-day lives. This is done before dealing with the root of the problem, which can take quite a bit more time to fix.

There are a diverse number of ways for treating the symptoms of anger, and there is no one correct solution for every individual. In fact, if you ever come across a therapist who tells you they have the definitive answer for your anger, then you should do yourself a favor and find another therapist.

Just as there are many different sources of anger there are many different available treatments, some of which are more effective than others depending on the individual.

Some of the most successful treatments for anger management include conditioning a client to perform a pseudo out-of-body experience. Patients are encouraged to take a step back from the situation and view it as a bystander rather than as an active participant. This allows them to gain perspective on the situation as a whole rather than becoming overly emotionally involved.

For people with more serious anger management issues, this technique must usually be preceded by a calming technique that will enable the patient to enter the right frame of mind necessary for what can be, for some people, a complex technique. There are quite a few different calming techniques available though some of the more popular ones are simple breathing or counting exercises.
